You know, I think whoever settled on the various symbols did an amazingly good job–if I had to pick off the top of my head it would obviously be the Sugar Maple (no contest there), prob the Morgan Horse b/c Morgan Horse farms are a big attraction and well known, the Monarch butterfly is the only one I know by name and sight so that would be my only option to pick, granite, well, duh, although marble and slate are def falling in just behind . . . The honeybee and the red clover are nice choices and go well together, but after years of cutting wood I’d be tempted to name the black fly or the mosquito although they are far less pleasant choices. The only thing I wouldn’t come up with on my own would be the hermit thrush. It’d be interesting to take a poll of Vermonters (at least the REAL Vermonters and see what people would want to vote for themselves . . .
